KMHD, Portland's premier jazz station, invites you to come down to Pioneer Square and start your morning with a jolt of jazz, a cup of coffee and a KMHDoughnut. On Wednesday, September 8 from 6-9am enjoy live performance by noted jazz saxophonist Devin Phillips and his band, tunes spun by a DJ, KMHD souvenirs, and that early morning caffeine and sugar fix. The Standard supports many local and regional non-profit organizations! At the Standard Volunteer Expo, the Portland community has the opportunity to learn about them all. For the first time MFNW will be moving outdoors for two shows. On Saturday, Sept. 11 Local folk-rock heroes The Decemberists, along with Laura Veirs, Blue Giant and WEINLAND, will be the first to rock the Levi's Pioneer Stage on Pioneer Courthouse Square. Then on Sunday, Sept. 12 catch critically lauded art-rockers The National with The Walkmen, The Helio Sequence and guests. Tickets are available at all TicketsWest locations. The race is billed as the “Ultimate Urban Adventure Race” for its uncanny ability to combine pure athleticism with thought-provoking strategy.
Based in Pioneer Courthouse Square, Portland's Living Room, Oyster racers have great access to trails, hills, water and a unique cityscape. Teams will run-bike-paddle-climb and perform other crazy athletic stuff to race around the city, answering clues and completing tasks. The Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board (NPAIHB) and other local area American Indian organizations will be hosting an American Indian Day Celebration at Pioneer Courthouse Square in downtown Portland. The event will be a celebration of American Indian cultures and is intended to raise the level of awareness concerning the challenges that American Indian people continue to face in this country.
